Your mouse is a camera
Know that an optical mouse photographs the desk up to 12,000 times a second and compares photos to track movement (and why it fails on glass).
Your mouse is secretly a CAMERA 📸🖱️
Flip your mouse over and look at that red light. Inside is:
1️⃣ A red LED that lights up your desk from a low angle
2️⃣ A lens that focuses the desk, like a camera lens
3️⃣ A tiny camera chip that keeps taking photos of the desk
HOW IT TRACKS: it compares each photo with the one before. The same little pattern shows up shifted a few pixels, and that shift is exactly how far you moved. The cursor moves by the same amount.
HOW FAST: a basic mouse takes about 1,500 photos per second. Gaming mouse sensors go up to 12,000 per second. That's 400× more than your phone's 30 fps video. 🤯
BONUS: that's why most mice get lost on clear glass: no pattern = nothing to compare. Use a mouse pad (or even a sheet of paper).
